  1. What did you do this past week?

This past week was a flurry of studying, as I had tests in a couple different classes, including of course, this one. The advertising test I took was fairly easy, fortunately, and I’ll discuss this class’s test below. After the tests, there was then a collective realization of the upcoming deadline for the second phase of the project. The deadline extension has helped, of course, but there was a brief bit of panic as we realized how much work has been left to be done, so we’ve put in more time to get things done.

2. What’s in your way?

Right now, there’s the ever-present deadlines for projects, that always have a habit of sneaking up on us. However, with tests for all my classes out of the way, there’s much less I’m facing down, for now.

3. What will you do next week?

Next week will probably be occupied by the next portion of a project for CS 354R: Game Technology. For this project, we’re using the 3d game prototype we developed for the previous phase, and adding network/multiplayer functionality: we need to implement a lobby system, as well as graceful handling of adding and removing players while a round is being played. It’s a field I have very little experience in, so it should be a good learning experience.

4. If you read it, what did you think of The Liskov Substitution Principle?

Unfortunately, I did not read it yet. I’ll try and get to it after submitting this post.

5. What was your experience of Test #1? (this question will vary, week to week)

So this test was very much a surprise. I was pretty nervous going into it, due to the relatively quick time limit for each portion (45 minutes for 3 coding problems can be intimidating), but I was really pleasantly surprised that I was able to get most everything done, with a good amount of time left! The questions were not super arcane or time-taking, but I think I can chalk a lot of that up to the preparations that I did, so I’m glad that paid off. I think 45 minutes for the collaborative part was a little much, but since we could leave early, it’s not an issue.

6. What made you happy this week?

At risk of sounding like a broken record, it’s more confections! Specifically, this week, we baked a dates cake, with a caramel sauce for the topping, and walnuts. It tastes quite a bit like a carrot cake, but with more sweetness.

7. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?’

While trying to figure out Mocha for the project, stumbled upon this website, with lots of useful tutorials: https://dev.to
